As part of their "Ópera en español" series, the New York City Opera presents Cruzar la Cara de la Luna —the world's first mariachi ópera— by José "Pepe" Martínez, with a libretto by Leonard Foglia.

Cruzar depicts the story of an immigrant family divided by the U.S./Mexican border and has earned raves from critics worldwide. It features a traditional mariachi orchestra performing on stage with an ensemble singing
in both Spanish and English throughout the opera.

“Amid current controversies over immigration, this tale of families crossing over and divided by
borders, and reestablishing lost connections, could hardly be more timely."
